Picture a kindergarten child- 5 or 6 years old- standing in line this afternoon. They are waiting to get milk with the rest of the class. It is afternoon snack time. Each child in front of the child moves past the milk cooler pausing to make the huge decision of white milk or chocolate milk today. But when this child reaches the cooler they are told they are not able to get milk today- there is no money in their milk account. Sadly, they have probably been told this before. He or she may not have been able to get milk with the class for a while now.
Now ask yourself, would you want to be that child?
No one does.
Staff members often reach in their own pockets for the milk money for their students. It adds up. But none of us want to see a child be left out.
Recently a church group made a generous donation to a fund set up solely to help ensure that all of our kindergarten, first and second grade students have money in their afternoon milk accounts.
At this time 60 percent of our students qualify for meal assistance. This means that those students receive their breakfast and lunch for free or at a reduced price based on the family income level. However, the meal assistance program does not give students afternoon milk.
Afternoon milk costs 35 cents per day, $1.75 per week, or $63.00 per year. Please help us make sure every child gets afternoon milk each day. As you can see even a small donation can go a long way.
Thank you for your consideration.
